Mexico's two best-known gold and silver series in one place. The Libertad has been struck at Casa de Moneda de México since 1982, carrying the Winged Victory of the Angel of Independence over the Mexican coat of arms, and it is one of the few modern programs issued in sizes from 1/20 oz up to 5 oz. Mintages are small by world standards, which is why high-grade Libertads carry the premiums they do.
The Centenario is the older story — a 50 pesos gold piece first struck in 1921 for the centenary of Mexican independence, at 1.2057 oz of gold, the largest circulating gold coin Mexico ever issued. The 1947 restrikes are the ones most often seen certified.
