Platinum (Pt)

Platinum is the least-collected of the four precious metals struck for coinage, which is exactly why its population reports repay attention. The American Platinum Eagle has been produced by the US Mint since 1997 in .9995 fine platinum, and several years have proof mintages under 10,000 across all sizes — small enough that a PR 70 DCAM in a mid-2000s date can be a two-digit population.

Assay House carries Platinum Eagles from 1/10 oz to 1 oz in proof and business strike, plus the Perth Mint's platinum Lunar issues — struck only sparingly for that programme — the platinum Platypus, and South African Big Five platinum.
