Casa de Moneda de México

Casa de Moneda de México is the oldest mint in the Americas, established in 1535, and it strikes one of the few modern series where scarcity is set by demand rather than by schedule: the Libertad.

The Libertad is denominated in onzas troy rather than grams, and Banxico sets each year's production against actual orders. The result is a mintage table that swings from hundreds of thousands down to a few thousand, with several proof and large-format issues that are genuinely rare in top grade. A 5 oz silver Libertad in MS 70 can carry a graded population in the low double digits.
