Refund policy

effective: July 10, 2026

every item we sell is photographed, described, and independently verified before it is listed. because coin and bullion values move with the precious metals and collectibles markets in real time, the following terms apply to your purchase. where you bought your item affects which rules apply — see “marketplace purchases” below.

returns

we accept returns on all items, including graded coins and bullion, subject to the terms below.

to request a return, email contact@assayhouse.com with your order number within 7 calendar days of delivery. do not ship anything back without a return authorization — unauthorized returns may be refused. when your return is authorized, we will issue a return merchandise authorization (RMA) that includes the address to ship your return to. ship your return only to the address provided with your RMA — for security and processing reasons this address may differ from the assay house main offices. items sent to any other address, including our main offices, may be refused or delayed, and remain at your risk. once a return is authorized, the item must be shipped to the RMA address within 14 calendar days of delivery.

except for defective or mislabeled items (see below), returns are subject to:

market loss. once your order is confirmed, your price is locked. if the market price of your item has declined between your purchase and the processing of your return, the difference (the market loss) is your responsibility and will be deducted from your refund. any market gain on a returned or cancelled item remains the property of assay house.
restocking fee. a restocking fee of the greater of $35 or 5% of the order total applies to each returned order and will be deducted from your refund.
return shipping. you are responsible for the cost and risk of return shipping. we strongly recommend fully insured, tracked shipping; risk of loss remains with you until the item is received and verified by assay house.
original shipping. original shipping and handling charges are non-refundable.

refunds are processed only after the returned item has been received, inspected, and verified, and are issued to the original payment method net of any market loss and fees.

defective or mislabeled items

if the error is ours, none of the above fees apply. accepted reasons are:

mislabeled / not as described — the wrong item, grade, certification number, or attribution was sent.
defective — the item has damage or a defect that was not disclosed in the listing.

report a defective or mislabeled item to contact@assayhouse.com with your order number within 7 calendar days of delivery. for these returns we provide a prepaid, insured return label, and once we receive and verify the item we issue a full refund, including original shipping — no market loss, no restocking fee.

order cancellations

once we issue an order confirmation, your price is locked and the transaction may not be cancelled, only offset at our current ask price. cancellations, including cancellations for non-payment, are subject to the market loss policy above plus the greater of $35 or 5% of the order total. any market gain on a cancelled order remains the property of assay house.

condition of returned items

returned items must be sent back in their original, unaltered condition. graded coins and certified notes must remain sealed in their original third-party holders (PCGS, NGC, CACG, PMG, and similar). holders that have been cracked, opened, or tampered with are not eligible for return. bullion must be returned in its original packaging, capsules, or sealed mint packaging where applicable. we reserve the right to reject any return that does not meet these requirements.

damaged or lost in transit

items damaged or lost in transit are handled as an insurance matter, not a return, and no fees under this policy apply. every domestic order is insured in transit, and we will file and pursue the carrier claim and refund or replace your order up to the insured value. report transit damage within 3 calendar days of delivery and a lost or non-delivered shipment within 7 calendar days of the expected delivery date, and retain all packaging and materials. full details are in our shipping policy.

marketplace purchases

if you purchased through a third-party marketplace, that platform’s buyer-protection program and return rules also apply and may differ from the terms above. which rules govern depends on where you bought your item:

assayhouse.com (including orders that check out through Google Shopping) — this refund & return policy applies in full.
eBay — eBay’s return rules, windows, and Money Back Guarantee govern your purchase and may differ from this policy.

regardless of where you purchased, we will always work with you to resolve a defective or mislabeled item.

why we charge market loss

precious metals and graded coins are priced off live markets. a return initiated after a price decline would otherwise transfer that market risk from the buyer to us, which is not the purpose of a return policy. charging documented market loss — and only market loss — keeps returns available for genuine issues while removing any incentive to use returns as a hedge against price movement. this is the standard practice among major U.S. bullion and coin dealers.
