Series II ran from the 2008 Mouse to the 2019 Pig and is the chapter most collectors build sets in. It introduced the full fractional range — 1/20 oz, 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, 1 oz, 2 oz and 10 oz — which made a complete twelve-animal cycle achievable at more than one price point, and it is the reason the series became a mainstream collecting program rather than a specialist one.

The redesigned reverses are the other reason. Each year's animal was given a full-relief treatment rather than the flatter Series I style, and the coloured and gilt variants that appeared through the middle years of the run are now among the harder pieces to locate in MS 70.
