The Rabbit opened the Australian Lunar program in 1999 and has returned twice since, in 2011 and 2023. The 1999 issues carry the distinction of being the first coins the Perth Mint struck for the series, and the 1 oz gold from that year is a foundation piece for anyone assembling a Series I set.

The 2023 Series III Rabbits are the current focus for condition collectors — the fractional gold in MS 70 with a First Strike designation, and the coloured and signed silver strikes with their much smaller graded populations.
