Founded in 1986 and based in Newport Beach, California, PCGS is the market-share leader for classic United States coins, and its population report is the reference most US collectors work from.

PCGS grades business strikes MS 60–70 and proofs PR 60–70, with DCAM (Deep Cameo) as the top contrast designation. First Strike indicates a coin submitted within the first 30 days of the mint's release; First Day of Issue is narrower still. Both appear in the titles here where the holder carries them — and both describe timing rather than quality.
